The County Administrative Board selected Robertsfors to be a pilot for sustainable municipal development, and applied for EU funding for a five-year development project. We received funding and began the project in the fall of 2001. The project is financed by European Union structural funds, the municipality of Robertsfors and also by the county administrative board and county council of Västerbotten. http://www.hallbara.robertsfors.se/engelsk/indexeng.html Baltic cities environmental bulletin www.ubc-action21.net/documents/EnvBul2_07web.pdf Local Sustainablilty Local Sustainability is an Internet portal established by ICLEI -
Local Governments for Sustainability - to provide a platform from which
European local governments can easily access the wealth of resources available
to them in developing, implementing, and monitoring policies in support of
local sustainable development. This portal is a 'one stop shop' for local
governments seeking to find targeted information and guidance on local
sustainability issues. Local Sustainability is designed around the five steps of the Sustainability Cycle, the key mechanism to a cyclical, integrated sustainability management on the local level - and to a successful implementation of the Aalborg Commitments. Local Sustainability directs you to a selection of specific online tools and guidance, such as the data base Local Resources 21, the target setting assistant Local Targets 21, the governance process evaluator Local Evaluation 21, and the Aalborg Commitments Implementation Guide. Local Sustainability provides you with the most important links to the Aalborg Commitments, the EU Urban Thematic Strategy, and the European Sustainable Cities & Towns Campaign. Individual ICLEI Services, tailored to the specific situation of your city or town, complete the support programme accessible through this portal. http://www.localsustainability.eu/ Link to environmental funding in EU: http://ec.europa.eu/environment/funding/intro_en.htm ICLEI—Local Governments for Sustainability is an international association of local governments and national and regional local government organizations that have made a commitment to sustainable development. More than 700 cities, towns, counties, and their associations worldwide comprise ICLEI's growing membership. ICLEI works with these and hundreds of other local governments through international performance-based, results-oriented campaigns and programs. We provide technical consulting, training, and information services to build capacity, share knowledge, and support local government in the implementation of sustainable development at the local level. Our basic premise is that locally designed initiatives can provide an effective and cost-efficient way to achieve local, national, and global sustainability objectives. ICLEI was founded in 1990 as the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives. The council was established when more than 200 local governments from 43 countries convened at our inaugural conference, the World Congress of Local Governments for a Sustainable Future, at the United Nations in New York. http://www.iclei.org/index.php?id=global-about-iclei ICLEI in Europe http://www.iclei-europe.org/index.php?id=64 |
